Breakfast “Starter”

1 tablespoon ground whole flaxseed meal

100g Greek yogurt

1/2 frozen banana

Pinch of cinnamon

I like to start the day with a little natural yogurt – active probiotics are so good for the gut!

Recently I gave my pre-breakfast an upgrade: plain or flavoured Greek yogurt, with ground whole flaxseed meal for added fibre and ALA omega 3’s, and half a frozen banana, for potassium and Vitamin B6, which is preserved in freezing.

Freezing a banana also changes the starch to resistant starch which lowers its glycemic value. Adding the flaxseed gives the whole thing a dessert feel as it’s  like a biscuit crumble base- almost like having cheesecake for breakfast.

The best bit? If you don’t have time for eggs to follow: you can throw all of the above ingredients into a blender with your choice of milk, add a scoop of protein powder and you have a delicious high protein brekkie on the go! This is likely to provide around 35-38g of protein, depending on your specific protein powders .
